Finance for me started in the late 20th Century, an age of Traditional Finance aka “TradFi”.
Pure dumb luck when after 4 years I decided to leave the financial world and build a post production studio in San Francisco’s South Park,
At the time the hood was a bit rough, a biker bar named “Bouncers” with a methadone clinic across the street. There was no World Wide Web.
My friends thought I was nuts; however it was a great top floor 1907 warehouse space where I could do whatever I dreamed.
And dreams sometimes do come true.
In a few years South Park was changing, early Burning Man and the internet created community while Wired showed the outside world the first glimpses of how we live today. So many stories… but let’s fast fwd to early blockchain/BTC days.
The early days of Wild West BitCoin looked like more of a casino gamble than an investment. It took a few years to overcome some serious skepticism to realize the elegance of a blockchain driven 21st Century.
My journey started early 2017 with being pulled into a project using Blockchain as the underlying technology to track and reward behaviors. . Blockchain as a platform fascinated me (and still does). However, early on it seemed to me a tech better suited to non-financial purposes such as supply chains.
What changed my mind was the introduction of Ethereum and smart contracts. That germ showed the radical promise of programable money, disintermediation and identity. Now we are still living through the rocky evolution of that promise. Living on the cusp of a truly historic shift. A shift on the level of the 16th century double-entry ledger that spawned the Renaissance.
An immutable triple entry digital ledger driving a change greater than that of the internet.
I live in the middle.
One foot walks the path of well tread traditional finance. The other keeps venturing into the unknown, building what is inevitably replacing our old ways.
Here I endeavor to introduce the reader to my version of the tectonic shifts happening around us.
